Fox 4 Story Highlights Abuse at Nursing Home

Kansas City news station, FOX 4, did an incredible, in-depth piece on the abuse and neglect occurring at Garden Valley in the Northland. Our attorney, Rachel Stahle, a local nursing home litigation expert, was interviewed for the piece.

In this heartbreaking story, we hear from a former nurse and several family members who outline the horrendous conditions inside this area nursing home. The nurse quit after two days at the facility because the state of the home and treatment of residents was so bad. One of the families interviewed described the horrific smell they encountered upon entry. Both reported Garden Valley to the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services.

It comes as no surprise that this home has seen a massive COVID outbreak among its residents and staff. Last month, the home reported having 40 cases. Currently, Garden Valley has 75 residents, so a majority have or had this highly contagious and deadly disease.

Rachel was asked about the state of homes during COVID, and the rising number of lawsuits.

“We are getting all sorts of calls regarding pressure ulcers or bed sores because these people are not getting turned, they are not getting up … they are not getting changed,” she said. “They are not getting to the bathroom.

“In a place like Garden Valley, where we know there are already concerns, we are getting even more calls on places like that now.”
