FAMILY SETTLES WRONGFUL DEATH CASE
A family has settled their wrongful death suit against a Missouri nursing home. Plaintiffs’ mother was admitted to the nursing home in order to receive assistance while her ribs healed due to a fall at her home and for monitoring of her anticoagulation (Coumadin) therapy.
Within thirty days of her admission, Plaintiff’s mother was found non-responsive in her room at the nursing home. She was then transported via ambulance to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a hemorrhagic stroke. Plaintiffs’ mother died in the hospital seven days later. Plaintiff alleged the facility failed to follow the physician’s orders regarding the monitoring required to resume the plaintiffs’ mother’s anticoagulation therapy, which ultimately led to her untimely death.
The parties reached a settlement on October 5, 2011.
