Jeff Burns of Dollar, Burns, Becker & Hershewe, LC, was recently appointed Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s Commercial Transportation and Litigation General Committee. This committee falls under the national association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS).
“This leadership appointment is a clear recognition of Jeff’s experience, commitment to TIPS and reputation among our more than 11,000 TIPS members,” said John McMeekin II, TIPS Section Chair.
In this one-year term, Burns will work with other leaders from around the United States on identifying emerging issues and helping plan activities for TIPS members that enhance professional development, ethics, diversity and public service. One of the major events the committee assists with planning is the Transportation Megaconference, one of the leading continuing education programs for those involved in trucking company-related litigation.
Burns has focused his practice on assisting truck accident victims for decades, and works closely with truck safety organizations in Washington D.C. to make our nation’s highways safer. He serves on the Boards of Directors of Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH), Parents Against Tired Truckers (P.A.T.T.), and is National Transportation Counsel for the Truck Safety Coalition. He is a former director for the Center for Truck Safety (C.T.S.) and also served in the Alliance for Safe Highways.
Last year, Burns was the first lawyer in Missouri to achieve Board Certification in Truck Accident Law by The National Board of Trial Advocacy. He was appointed as a member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Transportation Research Board’s Truck and Bus Safety Committee (ANB70) for nine years, and the Secretary of Transportation appointed him as a member of the National Freight Advisory Committee.
