Live Like Luke Foundation

In 2014, the Bresette family established the foundation to honor their son, Luke, who suffered fatal injuries in an accident at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. The foundation’s mission is to help kids and people live life to the fullest, just as Luke did every day. Through this foundation, the Bresette family will help families who have lost a child due to an accident. They will provide them with immediate emergency financial support for travel, lodging, meals, etc. Luke’s father, Ryan Bresette, described Luke as a child who believed in forgiveness – asking for forgiveness and truly forgiving others. The Noah Leake Scholarship Fund

Anthony and Michelle Leake home schooled their children utilizing the Christian Liberty School curriculum for many years. Their son, Noah, was scheduled to graduate from Christian Liberty at the time of his death. DB&B founded the Noah Leake Scholarship Fund through Christian Liberty Academy. It is the hope of Dollar, Burns & Becker and his parents, Tony and Michelle Leake, that this fund will assist families who also seek to honor the Lord through the Christian education of their children.

The Luke Hausmann Mission

Luke’s first mission was to Russia at the age of sixteen; by the time he was 23, he had been on missions to Cambodia and Thailand. At the time of his death, he was working on a home he refurbished to finance a mission trip to Afghanistan. Luke was determined to spread God’s word, to ease pain and suffering, to improve people’s lives, and to bring smiles to the faces of children wherever he traveled. The Luke Hausmann Mission fund was set up to honor Luke’s memory by continuing his goal of helping those being persecuted for religious reasons.

Precious Doe

In 2001, the dismembered body of a small child was discovered in Kansas City. The tragedy captured the nation, and soon she became known to all as “Precious Doe”. Tim Dollar served as Special Prosecutor in bringing to justice those responsible for her death. Although the trial of this case has concluded, the memory of Erica Green is still alive in our community and in our hearts. The Precious Doe Committee was formed to honor the memory of Erica Green by uniting public, private and community partners to ensure the safety, health and well-being of our children.

Maddi’s Mission

Maddi’s Missions was set up through the International Church of the Nazarene by the parents of Madison Peterman, Scott and Carrie Peterman. Madison had been on two missions out of the country with her parents and church group and was heavily involved in a ministry for children that included performances with puppets. Madison’s friends and family heard her say many times she wanted to keep going on missions as she grew up and wanted to teach other children about Jesus.

Bringing Back Matthew

Ed Slattery credits Akron Children’s Hospital and the outpatient therapy program through Kennedy Krieger for the progress made by his traumatically brain injured thirteen year old son, Matthew. Ed knows firsthand how much therapy is needed to help patients recover from traumatic brain injuries, and wants to ensure that everyone have the same access to therapy. He has made individual gifts to Akron Children’s and Kennedy Krieger and established a yearly amount to be held by Kennedy Krieger to be used specifically to provide therapy for those in need.
