1st Lawyer in Mo. to Earn Board Certification

Jeff Burns recently achieved Board Certification as a Truck Accident Law Advocate from The National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA). He is the first and only lawyer in Missouri as of August 2019 to earn such a designation and one of the first 23 in the United States.

Approximately three percent of American lawyers are board-certified in any practice area, and Burns is a member of a very select group who has taken the time to prove competence in their area of focus and earn board certification.

The NBTA as well as all board-certifying organizations are committed to safeguarding the public’s ability to choose a good attorney. They believe Board Certification is the highest, most stringent, and most reliable honor an attorney can achieve.

Burns is among a select number of truck accident attorneys in Kansas City who have illustrated their commitment to bettering the legal profession by completing a rigorous application process and providing the consumer of legal services with an objective measure by which to choose qualified and experienced legal counsel.

The elaborate screening of credentials for certification in truck accident law includes a demonstration of substantial trial experience, submission of judicial and peer references to attest to their competency, attendance of continuing legal education courses, submission of legal writing documents, proof of good standing and passing of a six-hour written examination.

Burns has focused his practice on assisting truck accident victims for decades and works closely with truck safety organizations in Washington D.C. to make our nation’s highways safer. He serves on the Boards of Directors of Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH), Parents Against Tired Truckers (P.A.T.T.), and is National Transportation Counsel for the Truck Safety Coalition. He is a former director of the Center for Truck Safety (C.T.S.) and also served in the Alliance for Safe Highways. He was appointed as a member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Transportation Research Board’s Truck and Bus Safety Committee (ANB70) for nine years, and the Secretary of Transportation appointed him as a member of the National Freight Advisory Committee.
