Jeff Burns proposed what was viewed by some industry naysayers as a radical idea -- award a corporate trucking executive the first ever "Safety Leadership Award."
Don Osterberg, Senior Vice President, Safety and Security, Schneider National, Inc. received the first-ever Distinguished Safety Leadership Award. The award is given to a member of the corporate trucking industry for their positive contributions to improve truck safety on America's highways.
In an effort to build collaboration among traditional adversaries, safety advocates, plaintiff's attorneys specializing in truck litigation and trucking industry leaders, Jeff worked to find a shared vision among all invested in improving safety of the trucking industry.
Jeff Burns knew if the groups could work together, a powerful collaboration would result. Noteworthy examples of these efforts include advocating for reduced speed limits for large trucks and for the collaboration of a congressional mandate for the use of electronic onboard recorders (EOBR) in large trucks. The EOBRs provide a more accurate means to monitor commercial driver compliance with hours of service rules.
